The Future of Food Production offers a series of three machines:

Machines designed to integrate the domestic space.
Machines combining the outcome of biotechnology laboratories with industrial farming techniques.
Machines composed of both living organisms and mechanical systems.
Machines that produce highly industrialized food: foie gras, eggs and milk.

These machines are nothing more than an extreme representation of the current practices of industrial farming.

These hybrid objects come from laboratories. They allow their owners to benefit from fresh products and to be sure that what they ingest has been produced without causing suffering.

Animal consciousness no longer exist and the absence of a central nervous system of the machine prevents any sensation of pain. It is this ability to effectively feel nothing that asserts the passage from an animal state of these objects to a machine state.  However, the machines of The Future of Food Production are alive. They have a value:  life. This radically distinguishes them from artifacts and allow them to occupy a more prominent place in the affective sphere of humans.
