Cécile Rosental was born in 1987 in Neufchâteau, France. She lives and works in Haifa, Israel.

Her practice of photography and writing informs her painting. Together, these practices form an ecosystem in which she explores the longing for elsewhere, the urge to escape that sometimes overtakes us, and the desire to reconnect with the living world.

She creates acrylic monotypes on paper. Her soft, pastel colors evoke an idealized elsewhere. Yet in her landscapes, where women seem to seek refuge, a sense of menace lurks beneath the surface, as if no idealized elsewhere could ever be entirely safe from danger.

Flight becomes a quest for freedom; nature, a refuge.
